“Shopping through AmazonSmile and designating the NBCC Foundation as the recipient is a quick and easy way to support our programs year-round, but especially during the holiday season,” says Tory Watkins Cherry, the Foundation’s Development and Communications Director. “It’s also a great resource to share with family and friends so they can support the causes important to you.”
The NBCC Foundation is a charitable affiliate of NBCC. Its mission is leveraging the power of counseling by strategically focusing resources for positive change. Millions of people around the globe and across the street have little or no access to mental health services. The Foundation strives to increase the number of counselors and Mental Health Facilitators working with high-priority populations to bridge the gap in mental health for those who are underserved and never-served in the U.S. and worldwide.
One of the ways the Foundation fulfills its mission is by awarding scholarships and fellowships to students pursuing careers as professional counselors who will commit to serving these populations after they graduate. The Foundation’s scholarship program began in 2010 by awarding 11 donor-funded rural and military master’s-level scholarships and has grown steadily over the years. Since its inception, it has provided 152 donor-funded scholarships totaling $861,000.
“Because our scholarships are 100% donor-funded, we rely on the support of those both in the counseling and larger communities to help us continue making these much-needed scholarships available to counseling students working with underserved communities now and into the future,” says Isabel Gomez, Vice President of Foundation and Professional Services. “Every dollar raised for the NBCC Foundation supports work to bridge the gap in mental health resources for so many.”
