Members of NBCC’s Communications Department and the editorial staff of The Professional Counselor (TPC), NBCC’s peer-reviewed journal, recently received five 2024 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence.

This year marks the 36th year that APEX has recognized excellence in publishing. The competition is sponsored by Communications Concepts, Inc., a company that helps professionals in the fields of publishing, public relations, and marketing improve their publications and communications programs through business writing and communications consulting services and reports. Awards are based on superior graphic design, editorial content, and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence. APEX Grand Awards honor outstanding works in each category, while APEX Awards of Excellence recognize exceptional entries in each of the subcategories.

There were more than 1,100 entries from across the United States this year. One hundred Grand Awards were given in 13 major categories, and 439 Awards of Excellence were given in 100 subcategories.

“We are proud of our communications team and the excellent work they do for NBCC and Affiliates every day,” said Rebecca Amburn, Chief Operating Officer. “We are also delighted that their talents and accomplishments have been recognized again this year by the APEX Awards committee, and we consider it a testament to their dedication and their collaboration as an outstanding team.”

NBCC’s Communications Department was awarded the following:

  • Award of Excellence, Writing/Type of Media: Interviews and Personal Profiles, NCC Spotlight: Ellie Potts
  • Award of Excellence, Writing/Topics: Mental Health/Mental Illness, Navigating Grief and Loss Can Provide Valuable Lessons for Counselors
  • Award of Excellence, Electronic Media: Video Media, A Day in the Life of a Counselor: Doctoral Student from China

The editorial staff of The Professional Counselor (TPC) was awarded the following:

  • Award of Excellence, Design & Illustration: Design & Layout, The Professional Counselor Digest – Volume 13, Issue 1
  • Award of Excellence, One-of-a-Kind Publications: Electronic, The Professional Counselor Digest – Volume 13, Issue 2

“These awards confirm the ongoing efforts of the NBCC communications team and the TPC editorial staff to make high-quality counseling scholarship available to as many people as possible,” said TPC Editor Dr. J. Richelle Joe, PhD, NCC. “I could not be more proud!"

“Our team has accomplished so much this year,” says Nikki Yannone, MS, EdS, NCC, BC-TMH, LCMHCA, Director of Communications. “I love seeing their enthusiasm for taking on all of our new and exciting projects. It is such an honor to provide space to highlight the amazing work that our credential holders are doing, as well as provide valuable resources. I think this team does an incredible job at blending their many talents to develop engaging content.”
