NBCC is partnering with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and more than 20 other mental health advocacy organizations for Hill Day at Home on Oct. 19. The event is an opportunity for organizations and individuals to urge lawmakers to approve funding and legislation for mental health and substance use treatment programs. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing offers a virtual event with keynote speakers, legislative updates, and immersive breakout sessions. You can find the Hill Day at Home agenda here. Two Highlighted Legislative Priorities During Hill Day at Home
Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Act (H.R. 4323/S. 2069)
This legislation would expand Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) through Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration CCBHC Expansion Grants, bringing key mental health and crisis-response services to communities across the United States.
Mental Health Access Improvement Act (H.R. 432/S. 828)
With approximately 77 million people living in a mental health professional shortage area and 30 million living in rural counties where access to mental health and substance use treatment may be unavailable, every counselor counts. The Mental Health Access Improvement Act will ensure that licensed mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists are recognized by Medicare, bridging the gap in coverage for those covered by Medicare.
During Hill Day at Home, we encourage certified counselors to reach out to their elected officials and urge them to pass the Mental Health Access Improvement Act (H.R. 432/S. 828) and the Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Act (H.R. 4323/S. 2069).
