In May 2025, our Government Affairs and PARC team launched an exciting initiative, the NBCC Ambassador Program! The mission of this program is to train a network of NCCs across the United States as legislative and regulatory champions for the counseling profession. This national group will focus on advocating for state and federal legislative priorities that protect and promote the profession and the clients we serve. We know that effective advocacy is born out of national grassroots engagement, and we are ready to create a wave of change.
To qualify, you must be an NCC in good standing and complete the application process. Ambassadors will participate in legislative trainings and commit to carry out various actions to move the profession forward with the team for preferably 2 years. NBCC will provide the trainings, technical assistance, and action alerts, and we will hold an NBCC congressional day as well.
Outstanding advocates will be eligible to become an NBCC Legislative Champion. This award will be bestowed upon NCCs who demonstrate advocacy and leadership to advance mental health policies, professional counseling standards, and client well-being.
An application process will allow us to carefully select one ambassador per state who will engage and cultivate relationships with state and federally elected officials and agency representatives. In addition, the ambassador will actively communicate with other counselor advocates, organizations, and associations. We intend to select ambassadors during the summer and begin leadership trainings in the fall.
We are currently accepting applications for qualified, committed advocates. If you are interested in the learning more about the program, please contact us at govtaffairs@nbcc.org.
