On Oct. 24, President Trump signed the Substance Use–Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities (SUPPORT) Act into law. The legislation contains multiple measures that NBCC supported, including a loan repayment program for counselors and grants for the creation of Comprehensive Opioid Recovery Centers.
Although Medicare coverage of counselors was not included in the final version of the bill, the legislation is still a major success for the counseling profession and mental health more broadly. NBCC’s Government Affairs team looks forward to working with federal agencies to implement the new programs contained in the bill.
