California Passes Counselor Licensure Law
On October 11, 2009, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill 788 into law, thereby establishing licensure requirements for counselors and making California the 50th U.S. state to license counselors.This important legislation amends the California Business and Professions Code, which already includes marriage and family therapists and clinical social workers, and identifies the Board of Behavioral Sciences as the state regulatory agency responsible for the licensure of counselors. NBCC Launches Free Online Journal
The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC) announces the launching of The Professional Counselor: Research and Practice (TPC). TPC is an official journal of NBCC and is dedicated to publishing research, practical techniques, innovations in counseling and commentary on professional practice and helping as a facilitation process.
