Medicare Legislation Still Gaining Support

Congress remains focused on the opioid crisis ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. Although legislation supporting counselors to become Medicare providers was not included in the package that passed the House earlier this summer, there is still reason to be hopeful. After months of extensive advocacy, NBCC has been able to secure over 70 co-sponsors for the House version of this legislation, including 21 Republicans, both of which are record highs. The Senate bill currently has 12 co-sponsors.

Although Senate bills that have moved through committees do not contain the preferred Medicare legislation either, the window for inclusion does not close until the bill is approved on the floor. NBCC is also working with Congress on future legislation if the language NBCC supports is excluded from the opioid package.
