International Relief & Development Seeks NCCs in Puerto Rico
Recently, International Relief & Development (IRD) contacted NBCC for assistance locating NCCs living and working in Puerto Rico. IRD is compiling an NCC database for short-term disaster relief and is looking for NCCs who are willing to serve up to two weeks in “special needs” shelters following the declaration of a large-scale disaster. IRD was also seeking NCCs in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
General information about the disaster response positions is as follows:
- Counselors can expect to be given 24 or 48 hours’ notice.
- All travel, housing, food and local transport will be provided.
- Services will be provided on a contract basis
- Counselors will be paid a predetermined hourly rate for the term of service.
- Shifts will range from eight to 12 hours.
- Supervisory positions will be limited and postings will be based upon previous experience.
- Background checks will be conducted.
In an effort to assist IRD, NBCC sent an electronic alert to all NCCs with an e-mail address on file. To date, the response rate has been good and we encourage all NCCs who are interested in providing disaster response services in these areas to contact:
